ASRC, in collaboration with YMCA Camp Copneconic, has developed a Counselor In Training Program (CIT) for past ASD campers. This one of a kind program provides tailored and specific employment training for ASD teens who have expressed an interest in one day being employed by YMCA Camp Copneconic. This program has been in place since 2014 and we have successfully graduated one CIT and they are employed by Camp Copneconic!
The phases/requirements of the program are as follows:
Phase 1: At age 16, interested campers may apply to the program and will train unpaid for 2 weeks of POWER Camp under a Camp Copneconic Counselor. They must still register as a POWER Camper and pay any associated fees of camp.
Phase 2: Upon successful completion of Phase 1 and at age 17, candidate will become a paid CIT of the ASRC for 1 week. Payment for 2 weeks is dependent upon available funds.
Phase 3: Upon successful completion of Phase 2 and at age 18, candidate may apply for employment at YMCA Camp Copneconic. ASRC Staff will work with candidate on strategies for application completion and interview skills.
If a candidate is not hired in Phase 3, they will have one more opportunity at age 19 to apply again for the CIT program and will be paid for 1 week by the ASRC. If after that they are not hired, ASRC staff will meet with them on program transition and discuss other options that may be a good fit for their skill set outside of the CIT program and ASRC.
