For the parent who has not yet gotten a diagnosis it is important to be persistent with the pediatrician and not just take "It's a phase", "Boy's are slower" or "Come back in 6 months for a recheck". If you believe your child has autism (see checklist for what your child should be doing at this age) pursue it or contact Early-On of Genesee County for an evaluation:

Below is a list of what to do if you child is diagnosed with an ASD.

1.  Contact your school district or GISD to schedule an evaluation.

2.  Contact ASGGC and ASM for support and information

3.  Join ASGGC’s online message board.

4.  Contact Community Mental Health for services and to apply for the Family Support Subsidy.

5.  Research interventions and find one that best fits your child and family (ABA, Play Project, RDI, DAN doctor protocol*, gluten free - casien free diet)

6.  Look at our suggested reading list on the Library page.

 

* There is generally a long waiting list for many DAN doctors. If you are interested in this you may want to get your child on the waiting list as soon as possible.
